DIY Quilt Sticks and Fabric Weights

Here's what to do with scrap 1/4" plywood. Take a trip to Home Depot and they'll cut the pieces for you. Pick out or cut a 36-1/2" piece of Sande plywood.

Measure and mark a 1-1/2" wide strip on the 36-1/2" piece. Cut off this strip. Cut more sticks of various widths (2-1/2", 3-1/2", 4-1/2", etc.) until you run out of wood. Now, cut a 1/2" wide strip the length of any excess wood. You'll use this to create a lip edge. Cut off a 1-1/2" long piece of the 1/2" wide strip. Cut different length pieces for each stick. Coat one side of the piece with wood glue and secure it to the edge of the 1-1/2" x 36-1/2" stick with a clamp. You now have a 1-1/2 x 36" quilt stick. Repeat this process for all of the sticks. Paint them if you want and label them according to their width.

Spread contact cement on the bottom of the stick and adhere a strip of magnetic inkjet paper. Trim with an Xacto knife. You may drill a 1/4" hole in the lip of each ruler to hang them.

DIY Fabric Weights
Button magnets are a great way to prevent fabric from shifting with a magnetic system. Place a magnet inside a 2-1/2" square of fabric. Gather the ends and tie with yarn to make them easy to pick up.
