Ceramic Materials & Equipment

This is a general list of the materials and equipment you will need for pottery.

Respirator: Pre-assembled respirators with permanent cartridges arrive intact and ready for your immediate use. Approved for dusts, fumes, mists with a TWA less than 0.05 mg/m including asbestos containing dusts, mists and radionuclides. NIOSH Protection Rating - P10 $34.95

Disposable Respirator: Use this disposable dust mask/respirator for protection against dusts and mists with a TWA not less than 0.05 mg/m or 2 mppcf, including coal, flour, and free silica. (3M 8271) NIOSH Protection Rating - P95. $4.95

Mini Seives Set of three sieves can be stacked for sieving dry material. 4.5" diameter top opening, 2.5" diameter screen opening. Made from PVC material. 40 and 80 mesh are brass screens. 60 mesh is a stainless steel screen. $49.95/set.

Talisman Hand Sieve is used for wet clay and glazes. Choose 40, 80 or 100 mesh screen for $56.60.

Replacement Screens are available including 150 and 200 mesh for $37.40 each.

Hand Brush for the Talisman sieve for pushing material through the screen, $7.50.

Viscometer is a must for proper slip mixing. It measures the weight of 500 ml of slip and also the viscosity. Instructions included. $22.45

Sculpting Tools

Scott Creek Clay Gun is practically a necessity for making uniform coils. It includes a 1/2" coil die and two blanks. Holds 3-4 pounds of clay. $43.99.
 
I recommend these die sets for basic pottery construction. Handle Dies and Tile Trim Dies for $35.95 each.
Makins Clay Extruder $6.24 from walmart.com is good for making small coils and decorations.

Clay Press for making slabs of uniform thickness. 14.97 from Consumer Crafts.
